Small Dog Collars and harnesses Buying Guide
 There is nothing in this world quite as fun as bringing home and playing with a new puppy, especially when it's a tee tiny baby like most Yorkie, Maltese, Doxie, and Chihuahua puppies. Their little bodies seem so fragile, but somehow they are always full of spunk. We should know, we get to play with new puppies almost every day!
We hope this page will be a guide for you to pick out a new harness or collar for your new baby, or for anyone looking for a dog collar for a friend with a small dog or new puppy.
Are there collars small enough to fit my dog?
"Everything in this store is too big for my little dog!" This is the phrase that we hear every day here at GlamourDog Boutique. We usually just smile as we show our new customers/new puppy parents all the choices that are actually available in small dog collars and puppy collars here for the tiniest of babies!
Our smallest collars on the smallest notch start with circumferences of 5.5" this is about the size that a 1 pound puppy or dog would wear.
What size collar should I buy?
For detailed sizing instructions, please see our collar sizing section. If you're buying for a puppy you don't have yet, or for a friend, as a suprise; As a general rule, dogs from 1 pound to 5 pounds will usually fit a range from 5.5" up to 8". Most 5 pound dogs have about an 8" neck. If you know the breed and approximate weight of the dog you can always give us a call and we'll be happy to help you pick a size that will work.
Will a dog collar hurt my puppy's neck?
 Depending on your puppy you may want to look at a softer collar to be gentler on their necks. We have nylon collars, as well as soft leather collars which are extremely soft and light and perfect for little ones who may be more fragile.
We also have many traditional leather collars and even spiked collars which come in sizes as small as 6 inches for your little ones who are all "BIG DOG" on the inside!
Should I walk my dog on a collar or a harness?
There are a lot of opinions that small dogs under 6lbs or so should not be walked with a collar. Other people do feel very comfortable walking their little ones on leashes. We suggest you contact your Vet regarding your specific dog for their opinion.
The most common way tiny dogs are walked is by a harness. We have several styles including traditional 2 buckle leather harnesses, crystal harnesses, soft no buckle harnesses, one piece step in no buckle harness and leash sets, soft velcro harnesses, and even harness dresses and harness vests. All of these are wonderful ways to take your little one out safely on walks with you.
Do I need a collar if I have a harness?
 We always suggest that little ones have a collar for a few reasons. The most important of which is for identification. It is always safe to have a personalized dog tag with all your contact information on your dog's collar. Although microchips are a big step in the right direction, an ID tag can get your baby back to you much faster.
Even if you only put the collar on once in a while when you have guests over, or there is traffic through your house, or maybe when your little one stays with a sitter, the added security knowing your baby has their tag on is well worth it.
Is there anything else I need for a collar?
 For your puppies safety the other reason we suggest having a collar especially for little bitty babies is so that they can wear a dog bell. Inevitably these little guys are going to try to be under everyone's feet at all times! A little dog or cat bell, or even a jingling dog charm will help to prevent any accidents.
