| Be sure to check out our Airline Approved Pet Carrier section for a large selection of approved carriers. Most airlines now allow small pets to travel with their owners in-cabin. Pet fees do apply, and your pet must have a boarding pass to enter through security. Many airlines limit the number of pets that can travel on each flight. We recommend you call ahead to reserve your space. The following information was taken from each airlines posted carrier requirements on 3/21/2010. In most cases carriers will need to be laid on their side to fit under a seat, so the width becomes the required height. ![]() The maximum size for cabin pet carriers is 19" long x 13" wide x 9" high. Soft-sided pet carriers such as Sherpa bags may exceed these dimensions slightly because they are collapsible. Animals must be able to stand up, turn around and lie down in a natural position in the kennel. Soft-sided pet carriers are accepted as long as they are constructed of water-repellent, padded nylon with mesh ventilation on two or more sides. ![]() Pets must be carried in an approved in-cabin kennel. The kennel must fit completely under the seat forward of the customer and remain there at all times aboard the aircraft. Maximum hard case kennel dimensions are: 17" L x 12.5" W x 8" H (43 cm L x 32 cm W x 20 cm H). ![]() Your pet must be small enough to fit comfortably in a kennel under the seat directly in front of you. Maximum carry-on kennel dimensions are determined by your flight. You must contact Delta Reservations to determine the appropriate kennel size.
Required for Travel:
Soft-sided and hard-sided carriers specifically designed as pet carriers are acceptable. The carriers must be leak-proof and well ventilated. The pet carrier must be small enough to fit under the seat in front of the Customer and be stowed in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration regulations. Southwest Airlines allows only one pet carrier per ticketed Customer. The carrier may contain two (2) cats or dogs and must be of the same species per carrier. The cat or dog must be completely inside the pet carrier and be able to stand up and move around the carrier with ease. Pets must be secured in the pet carrier at all times while in the gate area, during boarding/deplaning and they must remain in the carrier for the entire duration of the flight. Failure to follow this requirement may result in denial of transportation of the pet onboard Southwest Airlines. The under-seat dimensions are as follows: Window Seat: 19"L x 14"W x 8.25"H Middle Seat: 19"L x 19"W x 8.25"H Aisle Seat: 19"L x 14"W x 8.25"H However, please keep in mind that some seats might be slightly smaller in width. ![]() Your pet carrier may be either hard- or soft-sided and must prevent escape of your pet into the cabin. No part of the animal should protrude from the carrier, and the floor must be absorbent enough to retain liquids and solids. Ventilation must be adequate. Pet and customer well-being require restrictions on many aircraft. United Airlines may not be able to accommodate pets on some aircraft or routes, or in many United First and United Business cabins. To be brought on board, kennels may not exceed any of the following dimensions: Kennel type Maximum size for carry-on Hard-sided 17x12x8 inches (43x30x20 cm) Soft-sided 17x10x10 inches (43x25x25 cm) ![]() US Airways accepts hard-sided carriers up to 17 inches long x 16 inches wide x 8 inches tall and soft-sided carriers up to 17 inches long X 16 inches wide X 10 inches tall. On US Airways Express flights, pet carriers must not be more than 15 inches long x 17 inches wide x 8 inches tall on CRJ aircraft, more than 16 inches long x 17 inches wide x 8 inches tall on DH3 aircraft or more than 15 inches long x 14 inches wide x 8 inches tall on BH1 aircraft. 1.Carriers must be leak-proof and escape-proof. 2.Carriers must be ventilated on at least 2 sides, but not allow any part of the animal to protrude outside of the container. 3.Carriers must provide room for the animal to stand up and turn around. 4.Carriers can be made of metal, wood or hard plastic/composite. Exceptions are made for soft-sided containers made specifically for pet carriage. |
